US American Express Membership Rewards points transfer to 20 loyalty programs: 16 airlines and 4 hotel chains. Every ratio below was read from Amex's own transfer page on October 25, 2026. The live tracker changes when Amex changes a ratio or starts a bonus, so use it for anything time-sensitive.
The short version
- 14 of the 20 partners transfer at 1:1. A thousand Amex points become a thousand miles or points.
- Six don't. Cathay Pacific, Emirates and JetBlue give 800 for every 1,000. Leading Hotels of the World gives 250. Hilton gives 2,000 and Aeromexico gives 1,600.
- A bigger number on the right side of the ratio is not a better deal by itself. A Hilton point and an Aeroplan point buy very different things. What matters is what the award is worth in cash, divided by the points it costs.
- Transfers go one way. Once points leave Amex, they cannot be moved back.

Four of the partners pay out in the same currency
Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia and Qatar Airways all use Avios, and Amex transfers to each of them at 1:1. Each program prices its own awards, so the same seat can cost a different number of Avios depending on which program you book through. Price the award in each program you can book it with before you choose where to send points.
How to tell whether a transfer is worth it
A transfer only makes sense if it gets you more value per Amex point than the simplest fixed-value option you'd otherwise use. Two numbers settle it.
1. What the award is worth per partner unit.
Value per unit (in cents) = (cash price − taxes and fees on the award) ÷ units required × 100
2. What that is per Amex point.
Multiply the value per unit by the partner units you get per Amex point: 1.0 for a 1:1 partner, 0.8 for Cathay Pacific, Emirates or JetBlue, 2.0 for Hilton, 1.6 for Aeromexico, 0.25 for Leading Hotels of the World.
Then compare the result with your fallback. On the personal Platinum Card, flights booked through Amex Travel with points work out to 1 cent per point and prepaid hotels to 0.7 cents, according to The Points Guy's guide updated August 24, 2026. If a transfer doesn't beat that, the fixed redemption wins, and it carries no risk of the award disappearing mid-transfer.
Worked example: same flight, two ratios
A flight costs $1,200 in cash, or 60,000 miles plus $80 in taxes and fees. (These are illustrative numbers, not a live fare.)
- Value per mile: (1,200 − 80) ÷ 60,000 = 1.87 cents.
- Through a 1:1 partner, 60,000 miles cost 60,000 Amex points, so each Amex point is worth 1.87 cents. That beats the 1-cent fallback.
- Through a 1,000 : 800 partner, 60,000 miles cost 75,000 Amex points. (1,200 − 80) ÷ 75,000 = 1.49 cents per Amex point. Still ahead of the fallback, but by much less.
Worked example: why Hilton's 1 : 2 ratio needs the math
A hotel night costs $300 in cash or 60,000 Hilton points. (Also illustrative.)
- Value per Hilton point: 300 ÷ 60,000 = 0.5 cents.
- At 1 : 2, those 60,000 Hilton points cost 30,000 Amex points, so each Amex point is worth 300 ÷ 30,000 = 1.0 cent.
Half a cent per Hilton point sounds poor, and 1 cent per Amex point sounds fine. They describe the same redemption. Always convert to value per Amex point before comparing options.
Before you move any points
- Find the award first. Search the partner's own site, confirm the seat or room is available at the price you expect, and only then transfer. Points that have left Amex can't come back if the award disappears.
- Check the posted transfer time. Amex shows an estimated transfer time on each partner's detail panel. For Flying Blue, Marriott and Aeromexico it read 48 hours on October 25.
- Check the minimum and the increment. These are on the same detail panel. Aeromexico, for example, showed a 1,000-point minimum and 1,000-point increments.
- Use an account in your own name. The partner account you link has to belong to the cardmember.
- Transfer only what the booking needs. Any leftover partner miles are subject to that program's rules and expiration policy, not Amex's.
How this page stays current
Window Seats Club re-checks the Amex partner list on a schedule and records the date it was last confirmed at the top of the tracker. If a ratio changes, the tracker changes first and this guide is updated after it.
